STAGE 1 TESTING (SCREENING TEST)

D+1 DAY is commonly known as the day of screening. This is the first round of testing and only those who have done well in stage 1 are retained for further testing.
Screening test consists of two tests
1. OIR (Officer’s intelligence rating test).
2. PPDT (Picture perception and discussion test).
OIR test
It is a test of your knowledge. In these two sets; each containing approximate 50 questions of verbal and non- verbal reasoning is given. The questions are generally easy, however the time is very short hence good speed should be maintained.
Key points :
1. There is no negative marking in this hence maximum questions should be attempted.
2. Try to gain as many marks as you can, the more you score better impression you will create.
3. Do not stuck on questions; if you are not getting any leave it and then try to solve it later.
4. Psychologist will teach you before the start of the test on how to solve the questions. Proper attention should be paid to him.
5. Try to practice as much as you can.
PPDT (PICTURE PERCEPTION AND DISCUSSION)

In this a picture will be flashed on the screen for 30 seconds. You have to look at the picture, mark the characters and have to write a story on that. The following points must be kept under consideration before writing a story:
1. No. of characters, including the main character. Name should be given to the main character as well as side characters. However, if no. of side characters is more than only the name of main character will be sufficient.
2. Age, sex, mood of the main character as well as side character.
3. What lead to the picture? Should be given.
4. What is presently happening? It is the main portion of your story and it should contain bulk of your writing.
5. What is the final outcome? Should also be given.
Essentials of a good story:

1. Picture is generally hazy; hence take your write story properly.
2. Write a story which is practical.
3. Your story should be real and should depict some qualities.
4. You should make a story keeping a point in mind that you are the center character; and hence try to do only those things which you can yourself do.
5. Don’t make your central hero weak, and show him a strong character.
Discussion:

After you have finished your story , your sheets will be taken from you and you will be given some time to wait. In the meantime you can prepare your story. Then a discussion will take palce.
The discussion will be in a closed room and all the candidates from your group will be made to sit in it facing each other in a semi circular way. Three officers will be sitting in from of you.
You have to first narrate your story one-by-one, and then a discussion will happen in which you have to come to a final conclusion.
Key points about discussion:
1. Try to be a part of group and give constructive ideas.
2. Everybody has come for selection hence hustle- bustle is bound to happen, hence do not lose your calm and try to put your point convincingly.
3. Don’t be very offensive, or defensive. Be relaxed.
4. Try to make your narration small and crisp and try to finish it within time.
5. Don’t be very loud or very dim.
6. In the end group may or may not accept or may not accept your issue. Don’t take it personally. If you have made a good story than it has got nothing to do with your selection.
7. Listen to others story carefully. It will give you points to speak during discussion.
