GROUND TASKS (GT0)

GTO technique is an outdoor +indoor test in which you have to perform various task with your group. It is usually for 2 days, but in some boards (in AFSBs) it may be finished in one day and the one complete day can be reserved for interviews.
In GTO the following tests are to be performed.

1. GD (Group Discussion )

2. GPE(Group Planning Exercise)

3. PGT(Progressive Group Task)

4. HGT(Half Group Task)

5. Lectuerette

6. Snake Race

7. Individual Obstacle

8. Command Task

9. Final Group Tasks

**NOTE: - The first 5-6 tasks are performed on the first day while the last 3-4 are performed on second day.
 
 
GD (GROUP DISCUSSION)
 
In this test the group is made to sit in a circular fashion. A topic is given on which different viewpoints are given. You have to support any one and have to give points in support of it. The GD will be on two different topics. Initially GTO will give two different topics and one topic will be needed to be chosen from everybody’s consent. After the end of one GD another GD will take place on a topic specified by the GTO.
 
KEY POINT ABOUT GD
 

1. Have a good knowledge of different topics. The GD will be either on social issues, current affairs (those topics which are quiet hot and are current) or about moral values and ethics.

2. Try to participate actively. Do not keep mum.

3. Once given a chance; speak for Atleast 2-3 min.

4. Give facts and data; don’t repeat your points.

5. Put your points effectively and speak for only one cause. Don’t change your viewpoint.

6. No. of times you speak does not matter, the better you speak more points you get.

7. Try to give chance to those who have not got a chance to speak.

8. If you don’t have proper knowledge about the topic; then listen to others and try to take something from their points. In this condition don’t lose your interest in the GD.

9. Speak calmly and clearly. Your voice should be properly audible to all.

 
 
GPE (GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE)
 
In this task a set of problems will be given to you. The problems will have to solve by you. In this test GTO will first narrate you the story and will brief you about the important landmarks with the help of a map. After this a sheet will be given to you containing written narration. After this you have to write the solution on a sheet. After this all the group members will have to make a common group story by participating in a discussion.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT GPE
 

1. Listen to the narration carefully. Take a proper look on the map and take care of the important landmarks.

2. Make the full use of the resources. Make proper use of the manpower. Take care of the facts like national highway etc.

3. Try to deal with the problem yourself. Use of police/other authorities should be as less as possible.

4. Take proper care of the time and distance.

5. Priorities should be given properly.

6. The problems are real time hence solution must be practical.

 
 
PGT (PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK)
 
This is an outdoor group task. In this test a set of task will be given to your group. The entire group along with the load has to cross a specified area with the help of given structures and the helping material. This is an outdoor activity with progressively increasing level of difficulty.
 
 
HGT (HALF GROUP TASK)
 
The rules and regulations in this task are same as that of PGT; however the only difference is that in HGT the group is broken in two halves and each group has to perform the task separately.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT HGT AND TGT
 

1. Follow the rules strictly, if you violates any rule; you should immediately return back to the start point and report it to GTO.

2. Help and support other group members too.

3. Avoid giving suggestions involving use of physical power. The solution must be totally intellectual.

4. Make proper use of the given resources (Plank, rope etc.).

 
 
LECTUERETTE
In this task you have to give a lectuerette on a selected topic from given topics for 3 min. A card will be given to you and in that 4 different topics will be written. You have to choose from any one of the 4 topic and deliver a lectuerette. Time of 3 min will be given to each candidate to prepare his lectuerette.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT LECTUERETTE

1. Choose your topic intelligently. Choose a slightly tough topic and gain maximum points.

2. Utilize your 3 min. completely. Don’t repeat your points.

3. Try to give more facts and data.

4. You should prepare some good lectuerette topics in advance.

5. The lectuerette will generally be on some general topics (like my best friend), international and foreign relations or about social issues.

6. Stand straight and look at the group members. Don’t look repeatedly at GTO.

 
 
SNAKE RACE
This is one of the most interesting and enjoyable task in the GTO task. In this task all the groups are made to compete against each other. In this task a snake like load is given and the group has to a cross a set of various obstacles.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT SNAKE RACE

1. Help the group members in crossing the obstacles.

2. Always keep holding the snake.

3. Keep motivating the group members.

 
 
INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES
 
In this a set of 10 obstacles are required to be crossed within 3 min. it is the only task in which you can score more than 100% points. If you complete all the 10 obstacles within 3 min you can repeat any obstacle of your choice.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT INSIVIDUAL OBSTACLE
 

1. Be confident; this is a test of your physical as well as mental courage.

2. Be physically active; prepare yourself and improve your stamina.

3. Be fast in crossing the obstacles.

 
 
COMMAND TASK
 
It is one of the most important tasks In the GTO. In this test a obstacle similar to the PGT will be given to you and you have to choose two subordinates from your group to help you. The general rules and regulation remains the same as that of PGT.
 
KEY POINTS ABOUT COMMAND TASK
 

1. You should behave properly with the sub-ordinates.

2. Do not take their advice; it’s your command task hence you should be the one commanding them.

3. A good leader always leads from the front so you should also try to do it on your on and take their help only in making elongations etc.

 
 
FINAL GROUP TASK
As the name suggests it is the final group task. And it is similar to the 2^nd obstacle in PGT. Rules, regulations are same as that of PGT.
